Goodbye to Pastor Dan

Updates

On June 21, 2026, we celebrated Pastor Dan Solberg and his wife Barbara and their 26 years of faithful service at St. Paulus. There were smiles, tears, memories shared, and of course a cake. Thank you to all who gathered to send Dan, Barbara, and Bailey into retirement with love and blessings! If you missed it (or want to re-live it), you can hear Pastor Dan's final sermon and all the celebratory music on YouTube:

Pastor Solberg was the eighth pastor to serve during Saint Paulus since its founding in 1867. He was ordained into the Lutheran ministry in 1975 and served several congregations in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, area. In 1994, he and his family were forced to relocate to the Bay Area, the result of extraordinary conflict with the institutional church in Pittsburgh during the 1980s (as portrayed in the 1986 documentary ‘The Fighting Ministers‘). He pastored Christ Lutheran Church in San Lorenzo, California, for five years and then was called to the pastorate of Saint Paulus in 1999. Under his leadership the congregation reshaped its spirit and mission mostly as a church devoted to those on the margins. Pastor Solberg was instrumental in founding SF Cares in 2012.
