Barbara Solberg, Secretary

Born on September 1, 1951 in Pittsburgh, PA Barbara is
the oldest of four children of George Thomas Robbins and
Patricia Dwyer Robbins. Barbara was baptized in the Roman
Catholic Church and attended elementary school at St.
Sebastian’s. When Barbara was 11 years old her mother died
of complications from surgery. Her father was a Lutheran
and attended Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Glenshaw, Pa.
The children soon decided that they wanted to attend the
same church as their father and eventually became confirmed members of that Church and religion. Additionally, she left
the parochial schools for a public education and attended
North Allegheny High School. Barbara graduated from
High School in 1969. She worked for many years as a
practical nurse at Saint Francis Hospital and at University
of Pittsburgh Medical Center in Pittsburgh, PA. Barbara
married her first husband the late Jack Lind in 1977.
Barbara attended LaRoche College in Pittsburgh for a time.
She has three children from that marriage, Jason,
Christie and Michael. She remarried in 1990 to the Reverend
Dan Solberg. Dan brought his two children from a previous
marriage, Gabriel and Aaron, to the new family. After
moving to California in 1994, Barbara continued her
professional work by working primarily in doctor’s office
environment. Barbara is recently retired from a 30 year
career in nursing. Their children are now adults leading their
own lives, two are married and having their own children.
She has two grandchildren with one more on the way. In
addition to her professional career and raising 5 children she
has devoted a significant amount of time to Church activities.
She now lives (for the most part) happily ever after in Castro
Valley, Ca. . Tom Robbins, Chicago

Barbara grew up in Western Pennsylvania with a strong
faith and learned the art of struggle being the only female
of our family after my mother’s early death. She continued learning struggle during the steelworker wars for federal aid
as the plants in America closed to foreign plants with cheap
labor. Learning tenacity during issues and tasks developed
her sensitivity to the demands of ministry. … She looks
forward to new ministry challenges and working with new
partners in the San Francisco area, and welcomes the
challenges that keep her learning new ways to serve God.

Barbara Solberg is one of the most open, warm-hearted,
straight-shooting women I have known. She brings
openness, directness, warmth and laughter into any room
she walks and to every person she encounters. Her life-long
dedication to the vocation of nursing reflects her deep
concern and devotion to the physical, emotional and spiritual
well-being of the whole person. Yet, even as she has worked
full-time as a nurse, she has somehow managed to balance
her role as mother and homemaker to partner and champion
her husband, Daniel and his St. Paulus ministry to the
homeless, the oppressed and the dispossessed citizens of
San Francisco. This caring, fun-loving, empathetic, vibrant
woman shatters all misconceptions that so often attend the
label of "the pastor's wife". She may be my sister-in-law,
but I like to think of her as my dear and faithful friend. If
the significance of life is to be involved in someone else's
life, then Barb is a true and shining example.

Secretary Barbara Solberg

Barbara and I became coworkers and fast best friends
over 35 years ago. As a fellow nurse she taught me so
many life skills, I learned to be more organized, efficient,
and compassionate by following her example. She instilled
confidence in me as a nurse. Barbara’s truthfulness, sincerity,
as well as her character and integrity are only a few of the
reasons I have her as my friend. Her heart is gripped with
love toward her family, friends, patients, and especially those
that are less fortunate in this world. I’ve watched her serve
courageously, sacrificially and unrelentingly over the years
despite all of her trials and tribulations she has, and still is
faces. She had good reason to be bitter, but chose being
better instead, always looking to be a blessing, rather than
being blessed. Though all of her adversities she has captured
her eternal purpose and I’m proud to call her my forever friend. The scripture that best describes the heart of Barb the best is Matthew 25:34-40 Chris Kuzma, Pittsburgh, PA
